'TraumA' in film
How can the theme of Triennial Bruges 2021: TraumA be seen in film? MOOOV dived into its archives and presents a selection of (short) films and series that reveal the blurred line between delusion and reality. They show the facade that is often maintained towards the outside world, ambitions and desires. Ironically, with these films, we also escape into a dream world, into an intimate setting, away from reality.
A father suddenly loses his job. Out of shame he keeps his dismissal a secret from his family. Gradually, however, he discovers that he is far from the only one who has something to hide: his wife and his two children also each have their own secrets. Tradition dictates that it is a mother’s role to keep a family together, but this mother no longer has the strength. No genre cinema this time from horror filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa, but instead an equally terrifying portrait of an average Japanese family that is slowly disintegrating.
