Triennial Bruges 2021 thanks its partners for their support and heart for the city and contemporary art and architecture.
GOVERNMENT PARTNERS
It is no coincidence that the Poortersloge (Burgher’s Lodge) was commissioned by the then commercial elite, the Bruges Burghers, at the end of the 14th century. Bruges was then an important centre of commerce thanks to the Zwin ports. It was a time when modern trade and commercial capitalism took shape. It was also this same elite who, along with the rulers of the time, were behind the creation of the lottery system. Modern lotteries were properly launched in Bruges in 1441, with great international success as would soon transpire. What is remarkable about this “lotinghe” (lottery) is that, almost 600 years later, the bare bones are still the same. Lotteries now, as then, are characterised by three elements. Many players take part for a modest sum and for a good cause. It is, in fact, what the National Lottery and its players continue to do today. Support charities where necessary. On its 580th anniversary, it is therefore not surprising that the National Lottery will be contributing to the Triennial Bruges 2021: TraumA. A dream event, just like a lottery ticket can make you dream.
