COVID Update

Brugge Plus commits to respecting the federal and local measures, along with the basic protocol for Culture during Triennial Bruges 2021 (8 May to 24 October 2021).

The majority of the Triennial Bruges 2021: TraumA art installations are set up outdoors, scattered throughout the city. Visitors are free to plan their own route, and a specific tour with arrows has been avoided intentionally. This is not only to allow for greater freedom for the visitors, but also to avoid any waiting times or queues. A marked route is only used if visitors are exploring the artworks in groups accompanied by a guide.

The indoor locations of Triennial Bruges 2021: TraumA are well ventilated, namely Museum O.L.V. ter Potterie (Our Lady of the Pottery museum) and Poortersloge (Burghers’ Lodge). Hand sanitiser and face masks are also available here. An attendant will keep an eye on the distancing rules and one-way walking traffic in accordance with the Musea Brugge rules.

During Triennial Bruges 2021: TraumA, the measures will be applied as determined by the City of Bruges. However, the organisation explicitly asks visitors to wear a face mask at all times in the vicinity of each art installation.
The following installations can only be accessed with face mask:

  • The Porous City (Poortersloge (Burgher’s Lodge))
  • Strangler – Héctor Zamora (Tuin Gezellehuis (House Gezelle garden))
  • The Bruges Diptych – Jon Lott (Paviljoen op de Gouden-Handrei (Pavilion on Gouden-Handrei))
  • BLACK LIGHTNING – Gregor Schneider (kerk Groot Seminarie (Major Seminary Church))
  • Disentanglement – Laura Splan (Museum O.L.V. ter Potterie (Our Lady of the Pottery Museum))

The police and the organisation will closely monitor the public turnout. If there are too many people in the city, the police may decide to close off certain access roads. The organisation may also close a series of installations if necessary, including:

  • The Porous City (Poortersloge (The Burgher’s Lodge))
  • Strangler – Héctor Zamora (Tuin Gezellehuis (House Gezelle garden))
  • The Bruges Diptych – Jon Lott (Paviljoen op de Gouden-Handrei (Pavilion on Gouden-Handrei))
  • BLACK LIGHTNING – Gregor Schneider (kerk Groot Seminarie (Major Seminary Church))
  • Happy Coincidences – Amanda Browder (House of Time – 24/5 – 16/7)
  • Disentanglement – Laura Splan (Museum O.L.V. ter Potterie (Our Lady of the Pottery Museum))

The COVID-19 coordinator will be in regular contact with the city and emergency services in order to evaluate the measures and make any necessary adjustments.

We also request that the basic rules are respected during Triennial Bruges 2021:

  • stay at home if you feel unwell
  • wash your hands
  • wear a face mask
  • keep a social distance of 1.5 m
